Hands-on support with eligibility checks, claims, payment posting, denials, and insurance enrollment for solo therapists and small psychiatry practices.

Request a free billing review See how it works

For business inquiries only. A service agreement and BAA are signed before we access any patient information.

What the free billing review covers

  • Denied and rejected claims, and the most common reasons behind them
  • Older unpaid balances that may still be recoverable
  • Where claims tend to get stuck in your current process
  • Credentialing gaps, like panels you're not in yet

It's a practice-level look. We won't ask for patient information.

What we handle

You can hand off your whole billing process, or just the part that's falling behind.

Billing and payment posting

Preparing and submitting claims, recording payments and adjustments, and keeping your records matched to what insurers actually paid.

Denials and unpaid claims

Finding out why a claim was denied, correcting and resubmitting it or filing an appeal, and following up on older balances that have gone quiet.

Credentialing

Insurance panel applications, CAQH profile upkeep, and regular check-ins on each application until you're in network.

Eligibility checks

Confirming coverage, copays, and deductibles before a new client's first session, so expectations are clear on both sides.

Why practices choose Compass Billing

What you can expect when you hand your billing to us.

We focus on behavioral health

Therapy and psychiatry billing has its own codes, add-ons, and payer rules. That's the work we know best, so your claims go out right the first time more often.

Every denial gets worked

We find out why each claim was denied, fix it, and resubmit or appeal. We also watch for patterns, so the same denial doesn't keep coming back.

Older claims don't get forgotten

We follow up on unpaid balances before they reach 90 days, when they become much harder to collect.

You always know where your money is

Each month you get a plain-language summary of what was paid, what's pending, and what needs your attention.

Billing keeps moving when staff changes

When a front-desk person leaves or gets stretched thin, your claims don't stall. Your team can focus on clients instead of chasing insurers.

A clear start

Once we decide to work together, you'll always know what happens next and what you can expect from us.

  1. An introductory call

We talk through your practice, your current billing setup, and what's been taking up your time. No commitment.

  2. Agreements first

We sign a service agreement and a HIPAA business associate agreement, then set up individual secure logins in each system. No patient information goes through email or this website.

  3. Getting to know your practice

We learn your insurers, your systems, any backlog, and who on your side to go to with questions.

  4. A written plan

You get a short document showing what we'll handle, what stays with you, and how we'll stay in touch.

  5. Your first update

Within the first couple of weeks, you'll see what's underway, what's resolved, and anything we need from you.

No need to change your software

We work inside the EHR, clearinghouse, and insurer portals you already use. We'll confirm access and setup together before any work begins.

About us

Compass Billing is built on compassion and a steady, consistent approach. Behind every claim is a real person: a client who showed up for care, and a provider who did the work. We treat each task with that in mind, and our job is to make billing as smooth as possible so psychiatrists, therapists, and counselors get paid for their hard work.

Our founder

Michael has managed medical billing for a family-owned practice since 2020, where he saw firsthand how unpaid claims strain a business. Providers do the work of seeing patients, documenting encounters, and submitting claims, only to have payments held up by denials and unclear payer requirements.

Since then, he has worked extensively with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, and Medicaid behavioral health plans including Optum and Carelon, and has supported the billing and front-office side of psychiatric and primary care practices. That experience covers revenue cycle management, claim denials and appeals, and CPT coding for everyday visits.

He founded Compass Billing to give providers a dependable partner in that process, and he manages each client account personally.

We keep our client list small on purpose. You'll have one consistent point of contact, not a rotating team, and you'll always know who to reach.

Common questions

Do I need to switch my EHR?

No. We work within the systems you already use. We'll confirm everything is compatible during our first conversation.

Can you help with just denials or just credentialing?

Yes. Many practices start with one area that's falling behind, and we can expand from there if it makes sense.

What does the free billing review include?

A practice-level look at your denial patterns, older unpaid balances, and where things tend to get stuck. We won't ask for any patient information to do it.

How is pricing set?

It depends on your claim volume, the services you need, and how many insurers you work with. You'll get a clear price in writing before any work begins.

Who will handle my account?

Michael, our founder, works on your account directly, so you always know who's handling your claims. If we add billers to support your practice, we'll let you know first, and they'll sign the same agreements.

Let's talk about your practice

Share your practice name, state, and what you'd like help with. We'll get back to you within one business day to set up a short call.

Business details only, please. Don't include client names, dates of birth, insurance IDs, or claim documents here. If sensitive information is needed later, we'll set up a secure way to share it.
